Overview and Background

Washington County is making safety improvements to 90th and 113th avenues.

Problem

Both of these sections of roadway lack consistent pedestrian facilities, forcing pedestrians to walk in the vehicle travel lane.

The projects were identified by residents as candidates for interim small road improvements that had potential to receive funding through the Minor Betterments Program and Urban Road Maintenance District Safety Improvement Program.

The two projects were selected because they have the potential to improve public safety, provide connectivity to schools and neighborhoods, are cost efficient, and receive community support.

The 90th Avenue improvements are funded through the URMD Safety Improvement Program and the 113th Avenue project is funded by the Minor Betterments Program and the URMD Safety Improvement Program.

Solutions

90th Avenue

  • Add a sidewalk along the west side of the road between Leahy Road/Taylor Street and Stark Street
  • Add a sidewalk north of Stark Street along the east side of the road up to Oak Street

113th Avenue

  • Complete sidewalk gap along the west side of the road between Valros Lane to just south of Damascus Street
  • Complete sidewalk gaps along the west side of the road between Rainmont Road and Melody Lane, south of Melody Lane to Damascus Street, and south of Valros Lane to Anderson Street

90th Avenue Improvements

"We have children who walk to school and this main driving road is not safe for them to use right now. I see walkers and joggers use this path. They need more room for safe walking and jogging."

113th Avenue Improvements

"It is unsafe for our kids to travel along 113th and we avoid that route because of it. Ideally, there would be a continuous sidewalk from Anderson to Damascus, but I'll settle for any improvements."
